We tried really hard to create an informal environment at Assist Travel so that delegates felt comfortable chatting with the exhibitors and learning about all of the new products and services they had to offer. There are some really cool and funky new hotels, restaurants and bars that can be used to impress clients and colleagues.

The staff are everywhere always with a pleasant, relaxed, professional and informal manner. From the grand formality of The Strathearn to the bustling vibe of Deseo – where we ate – you can add the Michelin magnificence of Andrew Fairlie to the informal ambience of The Dormy Bar & Grill. Unusual but most welcome.

Once settled we went downstairs for a light lunch in one of the hotel’s restaurants, Cipriani’s. It was once again catered to business meetings on a more informal environment. Advertised minimum rate per night is €207 (February 2015). A large bed, bath and double shower made our brief time in the room a pleasure.

Using social media to empower Assistants

Despite my passion for social media I haven’t always been adept at it and was a twitter virgin until The Assist Conference 2015. Facebook Groups for PAs/EAs – in my experience these are slightly more interactive and informal than LinkedIn groups. Through my work it has enabled me to make great restaurant, hotel and venue contacts.

Getting buy in from the boss

There was less sharing of information, silos in place and limited collaboration. On the day I reverted to ‘show and tell’ and picked up the annual catalogue of restaurants for both of my bosses which greatly impressed them.
