Having booked business travel to Houston more times than I can actually remember I am very aware of how little time executives have when they arrive in Houston. Most business travellers attend their meetings and leave so I always try to book my executives into a hotel that allows them to see at least a little bit of Houston.

The walls are lined with shelves packed full of brightly coloured books, which on closer inspection are modern classics. It has a boutique feel, is very contemporary but has all of the mod cons you come to appreciate when travelling on business. I was really impressed with the gym equipment and the overall set up of the fitness centre.

I have booked hundreds of business trips to Houston over the years (for the oil and gas industry it is the centre of the universe) so I was really excited to see the city for the first time myself. The living area is open plan with a very well equipped kitchen, beautiful seating area with an extremely comfortable sofa and flat screen TV.

The complimentary Wi-Fi was faultless, which is always a bonus particularly for business travellers. On the ground floor of the hotel the space did look well maintained with a variety of flexible rooms and AV equipment. Why book the Doubletree for your boss? Advertised minimum rate is $149 per person (March 2014).

I did manage to escape work for long enough to pick up some groceries from the local supermarket with the intention of using the wonderfully equipped kitchen for some home cooking. Why book the Swiss Luxury Apartments for your boss? Advertised minimum rate per night is 550 CHF (October 2014). Our opinions are entirely our own.

The hotel has everything that a business traveller requires with access to a 24 hour business centre and faultless wifi throughout the building.
