my techie buddy who happens to be quite an athlete, and I completed this hike on November 9, 2011. It was certainly tough to travel that first mile and a half and we were all glad once we got past it. Everyone was on a pretty tight water budget this far up past the trailhead, but anyone that had any amount of water helped.
