Too Many Applications Driving You Crazy?

I close all of them by either clicking on the "X" at the top-right corner or pressing ALT-F4 (keyboard shortcut to remember - can be very useful). Once I am finished with the task, I would look at my next task on my to-do list and figure out what applications I wont need. Then I would open up the applications associated with the next task.

I have the same, plus tote around my early 2008 MBP, which still functions great after upgrades. I also love my original Zaggmate keyboard. read several blogs lately (one, two, three) that reference Byword. No need for new if the old still works for what you do.
