VA Industry Leaders: a conversation

In addition to not totally understanding the blogging craze, I am really stumped on how social networking could possibly help me market my services. I am in linked in and facebook but so far all I have been doing is adding names and it seems that I am overrun with requests to join groups that are not at all productive.
