Believe it or not, major corporations will run a background and credit history check on you. It was for catered food at a place that did not take payments over the phone with a credit card.

As you are job hunting, think hard about if you want to temp, freelance, do contract work, temp-to-hire, or direct hire roles only and under which circumstance. Instead of saying no to an opportunity or believing you know something, ask for more information and details. Job hunt with focus. Take really good notes and save them.

Whoever controls the flow of information, controls what happens. Get your boss' personal information now. Names, contact information, relevant data. If you have to purchase stuff for your boss - ask to xerox the credit card, both front and back now. If you are out sick, a temp will have to sub for you.
