Despite the limitations associated with a phone screen you can still make a powerful impression – powerful enough to get the real deal – an invite to the office. This makes a stressful time even tenser. Cover letter. Your cover letter is often the first touch point you have with a potential employer, so you need to make the right impression. The formal letter may be longer and include more details since this is the one you’ll likely submit with a job application.

Ultimately, I don’t know enough of your situation (finances, single/married, kids, unemployment percentage wherever you live, your age, your education/skill set) to give you definitive advice. You can actually do and say all that AS LONG AS you don’t say it with too much desperation, emotion, stress, and general freaking out-ness.

Have a system in place to acknowledge that youve received a resume and/or cover letter when they come flooding in. It may cost you some time in the beginning, but it will save you in the long run when job seekers tie up your phone lines or e-mail asking, "Did you get my resume?" Besides, its just common courtesy.

But in reality – the most useful skill that opened a lot of doors for me were my soft skills. I opened the phone book and signed up with every single one in town. 1) Do you have the admin skills to be an EA? Whether based on your cover letter or resume, recruiters only take 6 seconds to see if you are match.
