It's been estimated that 75 percent of resumes are never seen by an actual human and are simply stewing in a company database somewhere. They send a PDF when a Word document is requested, and vice versa. You don't want to do all the work and then get tossed because you didn't file it correctly.

When the HVAC system was installed, someone thought we might want the user manual for the system: a 400 page PDF document. Instead of filing the PDF on the network, the document was printed and placed in a filing cabinet , where it will sit until doomsday. We really didn’t need the manual. It adds up.
