It is imperative to be proactive about self-promotion in order to showcase your skills, achievements and personal brand. If you request to attend a Training Day and they say that time away from the office is the main issue, then you need to make the conference seem as undisruptive as possible. The role has changed and so must we.

There were many free training sessions for assistants to attend and the exhibitors were all relevant suppliers to the industry which again is not always the case with these types of events! This is what I did: I used social media to promote the event and my attendance at it. I tweeted about the show, the speakers and the content.
