Despite my passion for social media I haven’t always been adept at it and was a twitter virgin until The Assist Conference 2015. As you guys can imagine with two weeks to go to the Virtual Summit I am literally up to my head in videos, online event technology, marketing and social media. When I started looking at the programme I thought to myself, I really want to put a conference together that truly inspires and empowers assistants.

I attended the Assist Conference earlier this year. The Skill-set of the modern PA is a far cry from tea and typing: Exceptional Communication – with colleagues, clients, suppliers, peers and the public (includes Active Listening). Social Media Savvy – the best Assistants are all comfortable with Social Media Platforms.

Conferences, training and networking events can be equally as daunting especially when you are attending on your own and have to join in group activities and network with strangers.As I’ve said in the past training, networking and meeting suppliers should be an integral part of our career. Well you have to learn something!

There were many free training sessions for assistants to attend and the exhibitors were all relevant suppliers to the industry which again is not always the case with these types of events! This is what I did: I used social media to promote the event and my attendance at it. Look out for these on my blog over the next few weeks!

Meeting other assistants who work near by, who share the same suppliers, hotels, restaurants etc. Oh, and if you have set up your own network or you are part of a network, do get in touch I would love to have you guys on the blog (the network doesn’t just have to be in the UK either!).
