Tailor your covering letter and CV. I’ve written posts on both covering letters and resumes so all I would add here is that you should tailor your CV and covering letter for each of the jobs you are applying for. Working with recruitment agencies. Dealing with agencies – hum, this is tricky.

The gentleman on the call introduced himself as a consultant with a well-known local staffing agency who had reviewed the resume I had uploaded to the organization's website. Event planning could also figure into that category. General, but true and perhaps better than just saying that I helped lead a customer-facing event, period.

I do not include my contact details on my CV because these days you are normally either applying for the job online or through an agency and you have to give them your details anyway. Also if you write a covering letter, which I think should always accompany an application, then again your details will be included there.

I work at a travel and event planning agency. Most large companies have in house travel department or a pre-approved vendor and agency list. For event planning needs, the EA, admin assts, HR, and Facilties and Operations usually chip in and help. And as an event planner and EA myself, I will remember that venue.

I found every single one of my jobs through a temping agency or by referral. I learned through informational interviews that I should apply to temp agencies. The important thing I learned is, he’s an event planner, he hosts parties, he meets lots of people, and to him, the fact that I sent a thank you card said something about me.
