  The best know example is the tech industry cluster in Silicon Valley.   Industry clusters are place where there is a concentration of companies and services related to a particular industry.     The chart below shows PWC's 2040 forecast of the largest clusters by industry.

Hackerspaces  are an example.  .  But the concepts - shared space, targeted at independent workers and small businesses, an emphasis on community and networking - are being picked up in a variety of fields and shared facilities.   They are coworking facilities for people who like to hack or make things.

  The trend spotting site PSFK has a great example of lightweight technology meeting frugal innovation.  .  Consider the impact of PC-based desktop publishing on the printing industry.    The same thing is happening in almost all industries.    This is not as scary as it sounds.

  Jelly Fish Art is a good example.     Examples include manufacturing service companies like Shapeways and Ponoko.    Philidelphia-based Next Fab was not there, but it is another example of a Maker coworking facility.    It is a shift we see as becoming increasingly common.

  Tech Shop is a good example of an industrial coworking facility.  .  We also found 28 shared "industrial coworking" facilities that met our coworking list requirements.    These are shared workshops that cater - at least in part - to inventors, entrepreneurs and small businesses.
