As the saying goes you can choose your friends but you sure can’t choose your family the same can definitely apply for co-workers. Some colleagues you will get on with and form good solid working relationship on the other hand some you will walk up eight flights of stairs to avoid sharing the lift with, either way unless you quit your job you don’t have a choice about seeing them on a daily basis.

The tricky world of expenses

I must admit I’ve been struggling to start writing the blog this week, I knew I would be discussing the dreaded task of processing expenses and as I’m sure you can imagine the subject hasn’t really stirred my creative juices! Unfortunately for us this is a job we as assistants have to complete on quite a regular basis, it is dull, time-consuming and can cause no end of problems but we have to do it.

The Bribery Act – what do assistants need to know?

Last week I went along to Confex 2012, for those that don’t know Confex is a large exhibition aimed predominately at event organisers. During this year’s event the powers that be put on a PA day which along with the exhibition including specific training sessions for PAs. Although I have already attended a training course on Financial Crime through work I thought I’d refresh my memory and go along to a session on the Bribery Act and how it specifically affects Assistants.

Gatekeeping: what does it actually mean?

Maintaining a good relationship with your manager

I was recently asked what I thought was the most important aspect of being an executive assistant, having scoured my brain for a smart answer I simply said ‘maintaining a good relationship with your manager’. I’m still not 100% sure if it is the most important part of being an EA but having thought about it keeping and maintaining a good relationship with your manager makes the life of an EA a lot easier. .
