A few years ago I was working as a PA to a senior board director in an organisation full of project managers, engineers and specialist technicians. There were a large number of administration and support staff but we certainly didn’t make up the bulk of the business. My salary was good and I was happy with my lot.

For example, someone who has previously held a project manager role but opted for a career change to executive assistant may have a head start for a senior role. They also may sign off on key decisions that a regular EA needs to take to a manager. They are not on the low end of salaries.
