I temped here and there for a year. Finally, I got a job interview through the temp agency for a one-year contract. I finally got a phone call to say they wanted to hire me and could I start in a few weeks? A few days ago I went to this man’s retirement party and there were a lot of nice things said about him.

It began several years ago when I started working for Mr. H as a temp. When I helped Mr. K through his transition to retirement and assisted his replacement, Mr. A into his new role as the leader of the company, I knew I was more than JUST an admin! Initially, I did receive a few responses, asking me to provide video-pre-screens [not my favorite thing to do, I'm discovering] or to participate in phone pre-screens, which I giddily did, with zero results. I didn't love kow-towing to the age haters, but I also need to work, and let's face it, I am nowhere near ready to retire!

Besides having a checking, retirement account, and a rainy day fund, you should also have a huge savings account of 6 months to a year or more of living funds. It was for catered food at a place that did not take payments over the phone with a credit card. Have a huge savings account. You have to wear a different outfit each time.

The staffing agent asked if I was open to temp to perm, even though the position was for a full time EA, he feels the CEO may need time to see if it is a good fit. I have no idea how long "temp" is considered before they would offer the permanent position. It feels like a bait and switch and there are no guarantees.
