In its simplest form minutes are a record of discussion, decisions and actions to be taken and the date by when it needs to be completed. Below are a few tips so the task is not as daunting: Filling in the blanks I take minutes on a laptop so it is easy to make a template ahead of time which is based on the agenda.

This meeting was held out of town and those are a bit more hectic because I cant easily go to my desk to get what I need. I also made templates for the minutes of the various meetings and those were wonderful to have. Minute taking made easier. Dealing in real time.

Recently I have been so busy at work that I just didnt have time to get to the card shop to buy my usual box of cards so I have been trying to catch up and send belated cards out. The art of saying thank you can sometimes get lost in our busyness, but here are some examples of times it would be nice to send a card from work: To thank presenters who speak at your workplace.

We are living in troubling economic times. I can honestly say that even though it was a hard time to go through, I ended up getting a much better job and a better opportunity and can look back on it as a good learning experience. One of the things they stressed was to hire well.

To-do lists I have to-do lists for the Board and Committee meetings and a to-do list for the Board Reception and Dinner. I feel confident as I check off each item that things will be done on time. I got an e-slap on the wrist - Ouch!

There are times that I really want a paper trail and e-mail is great for that, but now I stop myself at times when an e-mail string has been going back and forth and getting more complicated with each new e-mail. The only time I would use an informal writing style would be when writing a personal e-mail to a friend that I know really well or family member (although I am sure in most cases they would prefer hearing from me, but e-mail at least makes a connection in the meantime).

Humour is a powerful stress reliever if done in good taste, but timing is everything. I always take my gym laundry home on Friday to wash over the weekend so on Monday morning I was madly trying to find them while trying to get out the door on time. It was a fun way to start the day and when the people at the office got wind of the story, we had a great time laughing with her about it. When working isn't fun: Ho hum, ho hum, it's off to work I go.

Do you ever get that ho hum feeling about your job and know it is time to consider moving on? After four years at my previous job I knew it was time to go. She told me that when she feels like that she asks herself, is this where I want to be in the next five years and if the answer is no, then she knows it is time to leave. Meeting documents: some people have it printed single sided and others double sided. The switchboard can get so busy at times that its just not possible to introduce every call that comes through (except, of course, for those calling for the big bosses). So the next time a call comes in from the Receptionist I think, OK so its just her so I say "Hi" and then it is an external call she is patching through and she hasnt told me. Working for the Disorganized.

A wonderful person, but totally disorganized and always waiting for the last minute for everything. You will also feel more in control of the situation and less stressed. The unfortunate part of this was that the person who was organized tended to get less assistance because the most time was spent on the disorganized person. Here are some things I would suggest to help: Have regular meetings with your boss. Remind them verbally as well when you meet with them.
