Getting off the train at Belfast Central Station I was slightly disappointed the weather was as wet and windy as Dublin, which was where I boarded the train. As there isn’t too much around the hotel itself (although within 10 minutes you are in the town centre) it was really handy having a cafe and restaurant on site.

The reception area leads on to the restaurant area and to a small bar space – The Consulting Room which serves cocktails and afternoon tea. Haymarket train station is only 0.5 miles away and an easy walk for anyone arriving or departing by train. I was in a great spot to partake in both activities.

Luckily my hotel, The Colonnade, probably noticing all of the left over Subway wrappers invited me to sample the menu at their in-house restaurant, Brasserie Jo. for the first time, in a French restaurant in Boston. The atmosphere in the restaurant was pretty relaxed. So far, not so good. No wonder he looked so happy.

Despite its slightly outlying location with a compact city like Dundee the hotel is still only 15mins taxi from the train station and only 10mins from the increasingly international focused airport on the banks of the River Tay. After travelling the 100 miles or so from Glasgow we arrived on a typically busy Saturday evening.

I actually walked to the hotel from the central train station, which took about 15 minutes. On my return, the hotel restaurant and bar were buzzing. If your boss is going to Geneva on business Hotel N’vY is a smart choice – it is in a great location, the restaurant and bar are lovely, it is reasonably priced and it has character.

Westfield is also dangerously on the doorstep with loads of shops, restaurants and cafes. I needed to print off a couple of train tickets and again the reception staff were happy to help (which is not always the case!) I had lots of different dining options, which was great. Advertised minimum rate per night £195 plus taxes.
