She said that new assistants are mentored for the first year of their working career. They work initially as an assistant-in-training and report to a senior assistant for mentoring and help with anything that comes up on the job. Because of this mentoring program they had no problem hiring young assistants right out of college.

You can get the designations that Brenda mentioned from IAAP which are the CAP and OM. The baby boomers, Gen Y’s, and millenniums are mentoring each other both on technology and human moments. Many of our corporate clients wants their baby boomers to mentor the younger generation coming into the workplace. – Karen.

How better to share the conference experience than a conversation with the creator herself – The professional, personable, and mentor to many, Joan Burge! A: Believe it or not, most of my mentoring came from executives; not peers. I do remember one time when an executive assistant mentored me. My third was reading.

My advice is to grab a member and become a mentor or get mentored! Shortly thereafter, I received the IAAP Member of Excellence and the CAP certification. Do you need someone to talk to during the day when you are stressed? Or do you have a question, call a member! Believe me, it is the best form of release therapy!
