On the phone. Phone conversations can make it easier to connect with others. Still, some people have a really hard time communicating by phone. A great tip I received early in my career was to smile while talking to someone on the phone. I hated talking on the phone, but I always seemed to have jobs that required it.

When I travel, I take my laptop and Kindle Fire. I always synch all of my files from my main Mac computer in my home office to Dropbox so that I am sure to have all of them handy while on the road by using the app on my phone and tablet. I dictate a lot while on the road using voice to text feature on my phone or tablet.

If I''m supposed to be on the phone with Jack at 2p, and he doesn''t call by 210p, I send a note to see about rescheduling, then I move on. Even if Jack calls three minutes later, I don''t answer the phone. Then stop screwing with it.
