When the HVAC system was installed, someone thought we might want the user manual for the system: a 400 page PDF document. Instead of filing the PDF on the network, the document was printed and placed in a filing cabinet , where it will sit until doomsday. I can print any web page to pdf and store it on the drive.

A quick and easy app for conference calling which is free to use and can connect people to meetings taking place elsewhere without being stuck in front of a computer or video conference equipment. The app also links up your social networking details with theirs. CardMunch: Free. Haiku Deck: Free. This is currently my favourite app.

We discuss the management of the outsourcer that sets up and maintains your servers, network, help desk and other IT functions, referred to as a managed services provider (MSP). How does equipment get purchased? Are they a poor outsourcer? For a smaller company, they may be fine. For a mid-sized organization, not so much.

But I live and work in less than 200 square feet -- so I don't have the room for a lot of equipment. My scanner serves all these purposes -- scan a document in and you can then e-fax it over the internet, print out a copy, edit it directly through OCR software, save it as a PDF and toss the paper.
