Skype allows meetings to take place in multiple locations around the world and the use of tablets means emails can be responded to anytime and anywhere (including the beach!). Not an ideal situation for either of you, especially if you’re on different time zones – the last thing you want is a panicked phone call in the middle of the night!

As I was going through the manual, I saw chapters on office procedures, confidentiality, health and safety, security and more. The Human Resources Director pointed me to a small office and I was left alone to read what must have been 200 pages.

You reminisce about that Seinfeld episode where Elaine gets stuck on the subway and starts talking to herself about how the train isn’t moving and starts to get claustrophobic. You start to feel the same way and wonder when your floor will hit next. This, of course, can be a nightmare, since you could be walking up many flights.

Basically, you can do whatever you want: put it as a free download on your site, send it by email to your friends, frame it and put it on your desktop, dip it into chocolate and eat it while pretending you’re dieting. I recently learned that Russia has 9 time zones in it, that means 9 happy hours on any given day.

Enter all travel details at appropriate times in his/her Outlook calendar, if used. Set a reminder several hours ahead of flights, and be sure to select the correct time zones involved. Copies of paperwork e.g. insurance, health documentation; passport and to be kept separately in case originals are lost.
