Use email for correspondence. For transportation and travel, use hybrid vehicles. While there are businesses which do not require travel, most still do and purchasing hybrid vehicles would be easier on the budget if you look at the big picture. The cost of fuel can make you feel like you’re losing out on this alone.

  One item frequently purchased at this time of year is a calendar or planner for the upcoming year.  Keeps all your appointments, contacts and email in one spot so it's all synched up. I can also store email templates and phone "scripts" (bullet point items of what to cover on certain types of calls).

The tool allows us to know where the business stands at-a-glance, view client data, track sales and expenses, create and manage invoices/purchase orders as well as see industry trends. reminders with alarms that go off, my schedule for every day, even dates a year or two from now, pick up and respond to email.

This is a very expensive way to impress others though, and will also create some folks who are unimpressed by your attempt to impress them. However, the one I have to disagree with is, ‘buy expensive things for yourself.’

When their readers don’t actually know what they do, because they never visit the site, they simply open Google Reader or their email for the RSS feed. My blog is my proof of purchase. That salary came from advertising purchased by business to air on my station. We are buying attention and paying for it with our writing.
