Six reasons every assistant should be using a corporate taxi service

A few years ago I was travelling with my boss to a number of appointments around London. It was February and it had just started to snow. Anyone that lives and works in London will know that the first sign of snow will initiate a complete meltdown of all public transport systems from airplanes to buses and everything in between. We had decided that they best way to get to all of our appointments was by cab so you can imagine my dismay when I couldn’t for the life of me hail a cab.

Citylab's March of the Non-White Babies  covers the rapidly shifting (at least by demographic standards) racial composition of America. The key message is sometime between 2040 and 2050 America will be a minority - majority nation. This means Euro caucasians (the politically correct term for white people) will comprise less than 50% of the population of the U.S.

When Your Schedule Goes Off Track, Do This

Office Organization Success

This weekend I finally got back into one of my hobbies that I haven’t done for many years — cross-stitching! Before the boys came along I used to spend hours sat doing this craft; I loved it. And then life got busy … as it usually does when you have a young family to care for. But I’m thrilled I now have some time in my schedule to allow me to take up this hobby again. And my youngest was fascinated with what I was doing.

Cameron House, Loch Lomond

Venues and hotels often fail when they try to be all things to all people. I first visited Cameron House in 2009 after a £17M refurbishment that took it into the top five best hotels in Scotland. The complex is waring well and in many parts looks like the reworking was done only a few years ago. Having visited the complex relatively recently (in the grand scheme of things – the building has been here for over 200 years) many things were the same.

Bare or Bear With Me?

Daily Writing Tips

Commonly seen on the Web is the misspelled phrase “bare with me.” The correct expression is “ bear with me.” It means, “be patient with me.”. One of the many meanings of the verb “to bear” is “to tolerate.” The verb bare , on the other hand, means “to reveal” or “to uncover.” For example, “Do not bare your navel in public.”. It’s not unusual to find “bear with me” spelled incorrectly in discussions of domestic problems: I know it’s long, but please bare with me, I’m in desperate need of advice.

In a recent television ad for a cell phone service, potential customers are shown as being afraid of “hidden fees,” “funny business,” and “bamboozling.” The agent asks, “What is bamboozling ?” A potential customer says, “It’s like malarkey.”. The ad bothers me because bamboozling is a gerund and malarkey is an ordinary noun. I’d prefer something like this: Agent: What is bamboozling? Customer: It’s trying to trick us by feeding us a bunch of malarkey.
