With summer hitting us with record breaking heat daily, and the kids home everyday it’s been a rough time around here. The kids are in the house most of the day to stay out of the heat, eating me out of house and home, getting crumbs and grubby finders everywhere. Cleaning is a full-time job in itself! Ever since my baby girls 10 day hospital stay a few summers ago, I have a hard time sticking with greener cleaning options.

I had never tried meditation until a few years ago, when personal and professional stresses were giving me insomnia and constant headaches. I decided to give meditation a try, and visited some sites online to learn how to do it. At first, I was impatient to get results. "OK, I'm breathing, dammit," I'd think. "I don't feel calmer. How come I'm not feeling calmer?

Last week was my 30 th birthday so as a present to myself I booked a short break to Portugal for some much-needed sunshine and relaxation. It is the first time I’ve ever been away on my own (other than for work) and I was really excited about putting all of my plans into action. Once again the ever reliable assistant skills kicked in and I had my itinerary in place weeks in advance of me actually boarding the plane!

Yesterday I received emails from two different people dealing with having their WordPress website hijacked or hacked. I can’t say for sure where the hackers found a hole in these websites, since I wasn’t responsible for building or maintaining them, but chances are it had something to do with a lack of maintenance in some form. Well what a week! In the space of one week, we: Had a water main break in the street and our water got shut off for three hours. Lost power over the weekend due to severe thunderstorms (in fact our town got hit badly with the storm). Lost TV/Internet for four days, due to above storm. Had to rely on MiFi for a few days. Had my car towed as it broke down!

Last year we posted on a study suggesting that many baby boomers were going to need to work until they were 80 to retire. The reason, of course, is the impact of the Great Recession on baby boomer finances. But according to the Center for Retirement at Boston College , most Boomers will only have to work until they are 70 to retire comfortably. Their crunching of the data shows that if they wait until 70 to retire, 86% of Boomers will be able to do so comfortably.
