Keeping your desk and files clutter–free in a paper–filled environment isn’t easy, but a little planning and a little technology can help. Once you’ve completed these items, the paper should be filed, re-routed to someone else or discarded. File it in a Reminder file or in your file cabinet.

Idea File – Ideas strike at random times, in the oddest places. Save recognized file formats to that folder and Evernote will upload to your account. Store Business Cards - Instead of collecting a pile of business cards that you’ll lose, photograph or scan them send the images to Evernote. Evernote recognizes text on the card, so you can search for names such as “Staples” or “Henry” when that’s all you can remember about the person.

I had one Executive that had a bunch of the old style Rolodex business card holders dotted around his office. When I told him that I could put an app on his new iPhone that scanned the business card directly into his Outlook contacts he was over the moon.
