As some Indian factories turn to exporting, they are moving away from low-skill manufacturing processes in favor of more innovative, value-added production. Leaders hope to boost manufacturing’s share of GDP from 16 percent in 2009 to 25 percent by 2022, over the same period adding 100 million jobs in the manufacturing sector. China for more than a decade has been the world’s go-to country for manufactured goods. But competitive advantages do not last forever.
