We have a responsibility in the virtual assistant industry to listen, educate, and be truthful about what we can and cannot (or won’t) do. One of the things I educated him about was that trying to make an employee out of a Virtual Assistant just never works. I had a wonderful phone conversation with a prospective client today. Unfortunately, even though we seemed such a good fit otherwise, I may not be able to work with him due to an after hours access issue.

I have to admit that with that kind of debt dogging me, I'd probably work too many hours, too.

Here are some things that I have often wondered about, but was always afraid to ask: Is there a budget for education for the administrative staff? If you don’t have this as a benefit, would your company pay for you to further your education so you can be a better assistant? I think we need to educate our employers and ourselves on what is out there and how it can benefit them and us.

I was able to spend some time over the holidays visiting blogs that were new to me, as well as checking in with those I read on a regular basis. I found some really good stuff out there, some so-so stuff -- and some stuff that just downright scared me.
