Depending on usage, maybe they should be in a binder, file folders, taped up on boards, just stapled in a packet or interofficed somewhere.

Start by reorganizing one project or client folder, your desktop, or the files you access most often. A good rule of thumb is if you would put the physical information together with a paperclip or staple, then they belong in a folder together. At the end of a project, delete unnecessary working files and keep just the final product.

Make sure that you have enough drawers to adequately file and store paperwork, in addition to all the tape, staples, sticky notes, etc… that might be lying around scatter-shot. If you’re working on multiple different projects, create one folder called ‘Projects’ on your desktop. Give the projects their own folders inside that.

I have different to-do lists for many projects. I usually put a subfolder in my project file for the to-do list, or if it is a small project, I staple it to the inside of the folder. I use a table format and put the Item #, Task Description, Due Date, Responsible Person and Status.
