U.S. Census Pulse Survey Finds Small Businesses Getting Slammed

Census has created a Small Business Pulse survey to track and measure how small businesses are faring during the COVID-19 pandemic.    As the Census chart below (click to enlarge) shows , 51% of the small businesses surveyed reported that the pandemic was having a large negative effect on their business.

Academic Studies Show Gig Economy Larger Than Government Data Suggests

.  Making Ends Meet: The Role of Informal Work in Supplementing Americans’ Income looked at data from the Federal Reserve Board's Survey of Household Economics and Decision Making (SHED). The study found "28 percent of adults age 18 and older participated in informal work for pay during the survey reference month."

Pew Research on The State of the Gig Economy in 2021
