I recall the person telling us how to use the program and it seemed complicated. When learning something new it is usually the little things that can seem overwhelming. I just learnt a new program to search patient names for information and medical records. When you get to this screen, look on the right hand side and press F11.

Another good idea is to post instructions on how to send a fax and how use the photocopier. The label solution was something I saw in our Mailroom. Simple, but if nobody thinks to do it then blanks will be sent by those less familiar with the equipment.

Aside from the fact that I don’t know how to make it, I usually do not have time in my busy day to bring someone a coffee. I mentioned this to our team of admins at one of our meetings so when one of my co-workers found out how to do something they thought to share it with the team. The tip she sent me was how to edit an email that you have received. The tip my co-worker sent is much better, but if she hadnt shared, I would still be doing it the old way.

Whenever I find out how to do something I create a new contact card and put the information in it. I have found using my contact cards for secretarial information has been very helpful. I have my regular contact list where I store contact information, phone numbers etc. and then I have created a subfolder called "Secretarial Manual".
