I was suprised to learn that any person can commit harassment whether they are an employee, co-worker, contractor, supervisor or part of management and that the workplace includes meetings off site, social events and social media such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.

What are you saying in chat rooms, on FaceBook, Twitter etc. It is easier nowadays with the Internet, so take the time to find out about them. 6) If you can search them, be sure they will search for your name on the Internet as well. What does your online presence say about you? Consider it a two-way conversation.

Do we consider that our children may unwittingly share confidential work information that they might see or hear us talking about on a social networking site such as Facebook? This was something most of us had never considered. When we sign our employment confidentiality agreement it obviously doesn’t stop when we leave the building.

Be aware when going online that more and more employers are searching the Internet with the names of potential employees to see if they are online, not only on interactive job sites, but also what we may be saying on other social networking sites such as blogs and Facebook or MySpace.

Always get the persons permission and never post someone elses photo on a social networking site such as Facebook without asking the person first. Smile you are on candid camera: Just because you can take a picture with your phone, doesnt mean you should. Things are not always as they appear.

The nice thing about on-line sites is for the most part they are free, but what they dont charge in fees they can take up in time, as many of us have experienced with sites such as Facebook. You can spend a lot of time in front of your computer. There is help out there and it is usually closer than you think.
