Make Sure You "Know," Rather Than "Assume"

Virtual Moxie

How many times have you heard a suggestion and immediately cast it aside? Maybe your immediate thought was, “Nah… that won’t work!” But how do you know ? Don't Get Lost in The Crowd at Your Next Executive Assistant Conference

I had remembered it was a large event – 8,000 – 10,000 attendees, more than 290 sessions, and more than 700 exhibitors.

The PhD Now Comes with Food Stamps is an interesting article on the struggles of adjunct university faculty. Adjuncts are freelance faculty who are paid per course taught.  According to the article, the average adjunct is paid $2500 per course taught, but it can be as low as $600.  As freelancers they don't have job security or, in most cases, benefits.    This is very different deal than what tenured professors get.  Tenure is granted after a 5-7 year process a

Moxie Tip 174: Know Your Capacity

Virtual Moxie

Your capacity is the place right before you start to lose it. The moment you lose it you’re overcapacity, and that’s a horrid place to be. Know where your "overcapacity" placel is, and stop yourself when you see it coming, *before* you get there. Create a reserve of space between you and your capacity so that you can relax a bit instead of being hyper vigilant about going over.

When you first start out, it's helpful to model the language used by industry leaders or other VAs you admire. But if you’ve been in biz for more than a year, you need to find your own voice. Talk about what you do & offer in your OWN way; don't copy. You may think to yourself, "I can't say it better than this VA or that VA does," but you can.
