5 Reasons People Run From You at Networking Events

On The Job

One of the things people like me always harp on is that you need to network all the time, whether you're employed or not. But I will be the first to admit that when I look back, there are things I wish I had done differently in my own networking efforts. Like not have a glass of wine on an empty stomach after a seven-hour flight. Because I now know that it makes me talk about stupid stuff for 20 minutes like how one of my cats has terrible hairballs-and-I-don't-know-what-to-do-about-it-blah-blah

Meeting or Memo?

Virtual Moxie

One of the best things I think a VA can learn is to respect the limits of a client’s resources—of all types. So that takes into consideration the resources of money, of course, but also things like energy, connections, emotions, and time. By way of example, if you know that your client is at her best in the morning, and really only has the energy to lick stamps after 2pm, it’s not respectful of her energetic resources to lay something heavy on her in the afternoon.

Career Advice from the Hit Show “The Voice”

Confession: I love the new hit show on NBC, “The Voice.” Maybe it’s because Adam Levine and Blake Shelton are so cute. Perhaps it’s because Cee Lo is so weird. Or maybe it’s just because Christina Aguilera strikes me as a train wreck waiting to happen…and when it does, there will be a lot of big hair and big vocals to accompany it. Whatever the reason, I’m a fan.
