If Time Blocking Does Not Work, What Can You Do?

Stephanie LH Calahan

The other day I delivered a Webinar with Allyson Lewis called Reduce the Clutter & Organize Your Desk - On a Clear Day I Can See The Top of My Desk! After the session, I received this message: Stephanie: I have trouble with time blocking. I don't always feel mentally, emotionally, or physically ready to do what I've scheduled for that specific period.

If I Can't Get It ALL Done, Why Start?

Virtual Moxie

Another great Pick Anastacia’s Brain question… this one from Emma (thanks, Emma!!): Sometimes, I just can’t get started on anything. It’s as if there’s a mule inside me saying, “Since you don’t have enough time to get it all done, why start?”< Do you know any tips or tricks to get me past that place? I can certainly tell you what I do. And since you’re talking about getting off the dime (getting started and taking action) rather than how to get finished, this might be perfect for you, too!

YIKES! Public Speaking!

Office Dynamics

As some of you may know my executive, Jasmine Freeman, was a speaker at this year’s 18th Annual Conference for Administrative Excellence. I have to take a moment and pay tribute to her for doing what so many of us fear. Public speaking! The days leading up to the conference she had some definite anxiety. She stepped up in true Jasmine fashion and was committed, focused, and determined to give it her best.

The Rise of Big Coworking

Small Business Labs

The recent European Coworking Conference was hosted by two coworking spaces, Club Office and Betahaus.  Both of these are very large compared to most coworking facilities. Betahaus is housed in a 4 story building and has a cafe, several floors of open coworking space and a big events space on the top floor.  I didn't find out their exact size, but my guess is they have around 10,000 square feet.  Club Office is even bigger.  It's a 9 story building with over

Thankful.

Office Dynamics

T-. Is for thankful. Oprah Winfrey said, “Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.”. H-. Is for happy. Did you know it’s a choice to be happy? So many people think when such-and-so happens, then and only then will they reach happiness -- as though it was a sort of destination.

Moxie Tip 80: Risk

Virtual Moxie

Raise your standard about being willing to be vulnerable with people in order to get your needs met. People can't support you if they don't know you need anything, and they won't support you if you seem impervious to being supported. Risk. I promise you won't burst into flames on the spot, and I promise people won't think less of you. In fact, I suspect they'll think more of you. .

Serviced Apartments – pros and cons

Practically Perfect PA

A few years ago I was working for a company that employed a large number of consultants, all of whom stayed in London during the week while the business footed the bill. At first the consultants picked their own hotels and put the cost through their expenses and as you can imagine their choice of hotels varied wildly and so did the price. Once the recession really hit home my Director’s budget was cut quite drastically and she asked all of us to think of ways to cut back on costs.

Giving Thanks for Adversity

Eat Your Career

I’ll be honest: It’s been a rough year. I’m not complaining…it’s been a great year, too. Lots of good, but lots of not-so-good at the same time. Thanksgiving is about celebrating abundance. And let’s not forget that abundance comes in all flavors. When it rains, it pours. The blessings, the struggles…they come in waves, don’t they? It’s hard to find something to be thankful for when adversity is all around you.
