How do you make your boss successful?

Practically Perfect PA

Pin It. I was chatting to a friend of a friend the other night and was asked that all important question ‘what do you do?’ I went with my usual response of ‘I’m an Executive Assistant’ only to be slightly more probed with the follow up question ‘Oh right… What do Executive Assistants do exactly?’ As I had a few drinks and wasn’t really in the mood to talk through my CV and current skill set my off the cuff response was ‘I make my boss incredibly successful’.

Integrating Eco-friendly Practices Into the Business Sector

Eco-Office Gals

In the business sector, there are a lot of trends that come and go. One trend that appears to be here to stay is an emphasis on green or eco-friendly practices. Many businesses are putting more of an emphasis on green practices, and these practices help their bottom line and the environment at the same time. This begs the question: what kinds of green-behaviors are businesses doing, and how are they helping?

Are You Turning Into a Zombie Employee?

On The Job

I watched "Zombieland" for the the first time about a month ago, and have to say I thought it was pretty good. That's a rave review from someone who doesn't care for scary movies. (I made my mother sleep with me at night for three days after I saw the first "Friday the 13th.") So, believe me when I say that I would not want to be a zombie because I'd probably faint from being so terrified of myself.

How to Avoid Clients With Financial Problems

Virtual Moxie

Last week, I wrote that a client’s inability to stay in your relationship due to money woes is never your problem. Betty wrote to ask me how to stop getting into relationships with clients with money problems, as she’s had two and would like to avoid them completely in the future. It would be nice, I think, to say there’s a way to make sure that the clients you bring into your practice are financial solvent, but with any certainty, you can’t.

Do you like your burgers integrated?

The Small Business Blog

For busy people consuming a hamburger is much like consuming I.T. these days. You drive along to a burger restaurant, buy your burger and consume it. It’s integrated – bun, burger, salad, onion …, all ready to eat. No cooking, no getting the individual bits and assembling the burger yourself.

Moxie Tip 269: People Pay Well For Value

Virtual Moxie

There simply is no other choice than to cover your expenses with your fee. Doing anything else leaves you unprofitable. Being unprofitable is stupid. Being stupid while you assume risk and responsibility, is beyond stupid. Don't go there. If you can't bring yourself to be profitable, don't be in business for yourself. It’s unreasonable to think that no one will want you if your fee is set appropriately.

Happy Halloween Assistants!

Moxie Tip 268: Handle Contracts with Moxie

With regard to contracts, this is one place where you really want to have enough moxie to take a pass on being penny wise and pound foolish. -- from a generous guest post by Edwin Levy.
