Google yourself. Blogging is a great way of showcasing your expertise, but also consider that more than 150,000 new blogs are created every day. It doesn’t matter how good your blog or Twitter feed is, if you post every day and then stop suddenly for a month, you’ll lose interest. Be disciplined.

Do keep an eye on your reputation, Google your name every now and again to make sure your details are up to date and remain professional. I would recommend you set up a Google alert specifically for your name, this is free to do and again helpful when job hunting. This is especially important if you are looking for a new job.

They Google your website for a biography. They read a blog you’ve written. Sometimes they’ll pick up those clues via written channels : They note the tone of your email. I recommend this blog post from Edwina at Who’s the Real Boss. If you are on Google calendar and are a real control freak try having the colour of the folder match the colour of their calendar. If you fairly distribute your attention, then you gain trust and respect from all the executives you support.

I found using Google Drive particularly useful as it allowed me to access all my documents from multiple devices. Have a contingency plan, what happens if you drop your laptop in the hotel pool?! Is there an Internet café nearby where you can work from? Is your work backed up? Work smart – flight delayed or waiting for a connecting flight?
