As assistants we are trusted with confidential information on a regular basis, we see our boss’ emails, we open their post and we often hear private details about other members of staff. A few weeks ago I wrote a blog on how to work effectively in an open plan office and I did touch on this subject but considering we often get asked in interviews how we maintain confidentiality I felt it was well worth revisiting this crucial skill.

Surviving the open plan office

Pin It. Over the years most of my roles have been based in large open plan offices where I sit in amongst dozens of other colleagues, all working away at a common cause… well presumably! As an Executive Assistant I’ve always found it tricky working in an open plan environment for a number of reasons but mainly because of the amount of time I have to spend hiding the confidential documents I am working with while being interrupted yet again by a colleague asking for something!

Last week I was on annual leave and as I’m sure you can imagine on my first day back in the office I was confronted with a shed load of emails and a pile of paperwork **cough cough junk cough** that had been left on my desk. Before I could even begin to tackle the work I had to get through I needed to get everything in a sensible and efficient order.

Secretary in the city

Last week I was having a fabulous holiday in New York to celebrate my Mum’s 60th birthday. With two Executive Assistants in the family I’m sure you can imagine how organised the whole trip was from the moment we booked the flight and hotel to the moment we landed back in London we had a detailed itinerary and plan for all to follow and I can tell you in the 5 days we were there we saw A LOT!
